‘Gilded flesh’ – Coffin decoration and its symbolism in the Theban necropolis (21st Dynasty) – Rogério Sousa
On September 19th Museo Egizio will host a conference entitled: “Gilded flesh. Coffin decoration and its symbolism in the Theban necropolis (21st Dynasty)” presented by Rogério Sousa, from the University of Coimbra. In this conference Sousa will discuss the Yellow Coffins of Thebes, how they differ from preceding coffin style. Further he will examine the evolution detected in the “Yellow” coffins aiming at reconstructing its symbolism and understanding how the craftsmanship of these objects shaped workshop practices in times of severe economic crisis and political unrest. The conference is free to enter and will occur from 18:00 in our Conference Hall.
