Late Period and Ptolemaic Period

Late Period and Ptolemaic Period.  Egypt’s conquest by Alexander the Great (332 BC), ushered in a Greek-speaking monarchy (Ptolemaic) which lasted until Cleopatra’s defeat at Actium in 31 BC. The official language was Greek, but the new sovereigns respected Egyptian tradition and portrayed themselves as pharaohs. Interesting religious developments occurred as Greek and Egyptian deities were assimilated.
