The "Statuario"

Ground Floor (right)

The "Statuario". Monumental stone statues, sphinxes, sarcophagi (meant to preserve the body of the deceased), eternal offering tables (with food offerings in relief) and architectural elements are exhibited in the two great galleries of the Statuario. A veritable royal Who’s Who of ancient Egypt is represented, eg. Kings Tuthmosis III, Amenhotep II, Tutankhamun, Horemheb, Ramesses II, Sethi II and sculptures belonging to princes and courtiers. The gods Ptah, Amun, Hathor, and Sekhmet (21 figures of her alone) appear in these galleries. As of 2006, all these figures have been shown in a new light, in a hall designed by Dante Ferretti, Oscar award-winning scenographer of The Aviator.
