On Tuesday 27th September 2022, for the 200th anniversary of the deciphering of the hieroglyphs by the father of Egyptology Jean-François Champollion, the Museo Egizio is offering a special free opening from 7 pm to 10 pm. Reservation is mandatory, book your ticket HERE. 

Visitors will also be able to admire the new reconstruction and restoration of the “Turin King List”, exhibited in a room equipped with multimedia tools and infographics to reveal the story and the contents of the famous papyrus. 

Available only on the 27th September, there will be a guided tour dedicated to Egyptian writing: “In the footsteps of Champollion”. An Egyptologist will lead the visitors in a tour among steles, papyri, statues, sarcophagi and objects from the daily life, to discover the functioning of hieroglyphs and learn to search for names and recurring spells in the inscriptions. Visitors will have the opportunity to live the adventure of the deciphering by J.F. Champollion and to admire the recently restored Turin King List.

Moreover, at 6 pm, the Museo Egizio will host the lecture History, Content and Restoration of the so-called “Turin King List”, which will focus on the new reconstruction and restoration of this famous document.
