From Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On Thursday 4th April 2024, at 6.00 pm, in collaboration with ACME (Amici e Collaboratori del Museo Egizio) we will host the lecture  held by Dimitri Laboury.

The Museo Egizio is nowadays world-famous for its exceptional collection of artefacts from the site of Deir el-Medina, where the artists and artisans who made the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings were installed during the New Kingdom (ca 1550-1080 BCE). Because of the contiguity of their settlement and the coeval Theban elite necropolis, it has often been assumed that these royal employees were also responsible for the decoration of those highly praised private tombs. Questioning this hypothesis, the lecture aims at addressing the question of the identity of the painters of these elite tombs during the 18th dynasty.

Trained as an art historian as well as an Egyptologist, Dimitri Laboury specialised in the study of ancient Egyptian art history. He is professor of ancient Egyptian art history and archaeology at the University of Liège, Belgium, where he also teaches ancient Egyptian history and history of religions. Thanks to a research incentive grant of the F.R.S.-FNRS, his main current research project is devoted to the study of painters and painterly practices in the Theban Necropolis, and, more broadly, artists in ancient Egyptian society.

The event will be held in English, admission is free with a reservation on Eventbrite. Click HERE to book your place.

The lecture will be broadcast via streaming on the Museum's Facebook page and Youtube channel
